Yahoo DFS Soccer: Introducing the RotoWire Holiday Cup

Yahoo DFS Soccer: Introducing the RotoWire Holiday Cup

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Soccer series.

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Yahoo Fantasy Sports to offer an exclusive contest for RotoWire subscribers and readers. Similar to the Yahoo Cup, the RotoWire Holiday Cup is a 10-gameweek event that will begin this Saturday, Nov. 25 and run through Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The contest, which includes $2,000 in guaranteed prizes, is available to the first 200 participants who sign up. For a one-time $5 entry fee, fantasy players will compete for weekly prizes, as well as overall league prizes after the 10 gameweeks, with first place taking home $500. Everyone's lowest weekly score will be dropped, and the 30 highest cumulative scores after the final week will win.

For those who regularly play on Yahoo, the RotoWire Holiday Cup will be a great companion event to participate in over the busy Premier League holiday period. One big difference between the regular Yahoo Cup and the RotoWire Holiday Cup is that our contests will only cover the main DFS slate each week and not the entire gameweek. This way, you can simply use a lineup that you've already entered in other contests instead of having to build a completely new one that includes additional matches.

For those who are new to Yahoo DFS Soccer, welcome!

Like many other DFS sites, Yahoo's scoring system is unique and offers many ways to score fantasy points. Users are required to submit an 11-man roster, which includes two forwards, four midfielders, three defenders, one utility and one goalkeeper. Looking at it formation-wise, fantasy players can use either a 4-4-2, 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 depending on what position they use for the utility spot.

Here is a breakdown of the scoring categories:

While the scoring categories include a number of defensive stats, there are many more attacking ones, including a heavy weight on shots on target. In fact, since all shots on target are also shots, each one is worth 2.5 points, which equates to 31.25 percent of a goal. For reference, a shot on target is only worth 20 percent of the value of a goal on DraftKings and 33 percent on FanDuel.

If you're unfamiliar with a few of the leaders in each stat category, here are the top 10 players in the Premier League for each positive Yahoo stat other than goals and assists:

All of these stats are available throughout the RotoWire website, including our Player Stats, Team Stats and Defense vs. Pos pages. Additionally, we publish weekly projections which feed our Yahoo DFS Soccer Lineup Optimizer. And if you are a regular reader of the weekly Fantasy Premier League cheat sheets, you'll see that all of the relevant stats for playing on Yahoo are already there.

Finally, we will be publishing weekly advice articles to help you build your lineup(s), and you can always reach out with questions through the RotoWire Soccer Slack Chat, which is available to all subscribers (if you would like to join, just email me at andrew@rotowire.com and we'll get you set up). Don't have a subscription yet? We have many different options available here, or, if you'd like to try us out for 10 days free (no credit card required), you can do that here.
