2024 Fantasy Outlook
Mazur checks a lot of boxes dynasty-league managers look for in pitching prospects. He throws a ton of strikes (walk rates below five percent at every stop) and has a full starter's pitch mix. Mazur was a projectable college starter when he was drafted out of Iowa in 2022, as he was 6-foot-2, 180 pounds and had room to put on good weight, and now Mazur's fastball sits at 95 mph. His changeup and slider will each flash plus, and if he continues on his current trajectory, he could surpass even a mid-rotation starter projection. The Padres all of a sudden have some rotation depth, with Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez waiting for opportunities, but Mazur seems like the most likely of the Padres' Double-A arms to reach the majors this summer. The Padres have selected Mazur with the 53rd overall pick in the 2022 first-year player draft.
ANALYSIS
A 6-foot-2, 180-pound righty from Iowa, Mazur has four average or better pitches. His slider is his best pitch, and he can touch 99 mph with his fourseamer while also mixing in a sinker. Mazur's frame is pretty projectable by college standards, so he may be able to eventually touch triple digits with pro instruction.
