Likely to make roster
RBTennessee Titans
June 25, 2022
Turron Davenport of ESPN thinks Cannon will make the Titans' 2022 roster.
ANALYSIS
Cannon has bounced around the league, suiting up for four different teams since the Jets selected him in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Davenport believes Cannon will get a chance to play for a fifth different squad, as Cannon's ability to contribute on special teams as a kickoff and punt returner should allow him to secure a depth role in a Tennessee backfield that also features Dontrell Hilliard and rookie Hassan Haskins behind workhorse Derrick Henry.

Cannon joined the Titans during the offseason, his fifth team in as many seasons in the NFL. He had his most significant offensive involvement as a rookie in 2018, but he has found his role primarily as a member of special teams units in more recent campaigns. He projects to fill a similar with Tennessee in 2022.
Even with star Christian McCaffrey playing just three games last season, Cannon was sparingly involved out of the Panthers' backfield. With McCaffrey back in 2021, and rookie fourth-rounder Chuba Hubbard now joining Rodney Smith and Reggie Bonnafon among Carolina's options, Cannon should be hard-pressed to earn snaps on offense.
Cannon spent most of the offseason buried on the Jets' running back depth chart behind Le'Veon Bell, Frank Gore and La'Mical Perine. The Jets decided to waive Cannon in the opening days of camp, and the Panthers ended up claiming him. The 2018 sixth-rounder didn't have a carry or catch last season, appearing in only four games. With his new team, Cannon likely is competing with Mike Davis and Jordan Scarlett for one or two places on the regular-season roster.
With the offseason acquisitions of Le'Veon Bell and Ty Montgomery to join Elijah McGuire, there's not much room left for Cannon on the Jets' running back depth chart. All hope isn't lost for the 2018 sixth-rounder, however, as New York drafted him with the return game in mind and there's a special teams hole to be filled with Pro Bowler Andre Roberts now plying his trade in Buffalo. Cannon battled fumbling issues when used as a return man during the 2018 preseason, so he'll have to show that those are behind him in order to make the roster.
Cannon may not have the size to handle a starter's workload at the NFL level, but the rookie sixth-rounder out of Virginia State almost certainly won't be asked to. If the 5-foot-11, 185-pound running back sees the field at all, it will likely be in a change-of-pace passing down role or as a returner on special teams.
