Exploring market
Calgary is gauging the trade market for Gilbert, according to The Fourth Period.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert has an assist, 17 hits and 10 blocks in nine contests with the Flames this season, though he's served as a healthy scratch for Calgary's last five contests. Gilbert is in the final season of a two-year, $1.525 million contract, and the Flames are off to a 5-8-2 start, so it's not surprising that Calgary would be weighing the possibility of trading him and other players on expiring contracts. Gilbert isn't likely to garner much of a return, but there might be contending teams out there interested in him as a physical depth defenseman.

2020 Fantasy Outlook
Gilbert has collected 22 games of NHL experience over the last two years, but he has just three points to show for it. The 24-year-old has added 80 hits and 34 blocked shots over that same span. He joined the Avalanche as part of the Brandon Saad trade with Chicago, but Gilbert is far from a lock to see much playing time in 2020-21. He'll benefit from Colorado's relative lack of NHL-capable, left-shot defenders, which almost guarantees Gilbert will be with the big club on Opening Night. That said, he's more of a defense-first player, which gives him next to no fantasy appeal, even in deeper formats.
