Arroyo lost to Joaquin Buckley via KO (punches) at 2:26 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Seemingly about two and a half minutes from scoring the biggest victory of his career and cashing as a +160 underdog, Arroyo has instead lost three in a row and is more likely than not looking at a release. Arroyo didn't generate much offensively over the course of the first ten minutes, but he kept Buckley off balance and stuffed five of six takedown attempts along the way. The tide turned midway through Round 3 after Arroyo ate one massive combination that floored him and forced referee Mark Smith to call off the bout. It was the first knockout defeat of Arroyo's pro career, which began in July 2014. A three-fight losing streak is often a death sentence these days, but Arroyo is one of the guy's worth taking a fourth chance on.

Arroyo was supposed to fight Tom Breese on June 5, but his opponent was forced to withdraw on the day of the fight. Arroyo was last in the Octagon back in December when he lost to Deron Winn by unanimous decision. Buckley is looking to shake off being knocked out in his last fight back in January.

Arroyo will not fight Tom Breese Saturday after Breese pulled out of the fight for undisclosed reasons, Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com reports.

The reasons for Breese's withdrawal aren't known at this point. Arroyo hasn't fought since December so he'll likely be in search of an opponent for a fight in the near future.

Arroyo is a fairly effective striker who has displayed the ability to mix in a submission here and there, but he has now lost each of his first two UFC bouts and is without a victory dating back to July 2018. With jobs at a premium these days, there is no guarantee the 31-year-old Arroyo gets a third opportunity with the company.
