Losing streak hits three
WelterweightUFC
January 13, 2024
Semelsberger lost to Preston Parsons via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Stepping in for Bassil Hafez on about a month's notice, Semelsberger needed a strong performance here in the worst way, and he instead got swept on the judges' scorecards. Semi has plenty of power and is aggressive on the feet, but his defense, particularly his takedown defense, is lacking. He allowed Parsons to land 7-of-11 attempts. The power is all well and good, but if you aren't finishing your opposition, it's tough to win fights when you're spending nearly half of it being controlled on the mat. Semelsberger began his UFC run with four wins in his first five fights, but he's now lost three in a row and four of his last five.

WelterweightUFC
July 29, 2023
Semelsberger lost to Uros Medic via TKO (strikes) at 2:36 of Round 3 at UFC 291 on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing defeat for Semelsberger that will be difficult to overcome. Entering as a healthy -215 favorite, Semelsberger got off to a very quick start. He landed a Round 1 knockdown that had Medic in all sorts of trouble. His corner was screaming at Semelsberger to allow Medic back to his feet in hopes of finishing him off, but "Semi the Jedi" engaged him on the mat and couldn't close the show. He slowly faded is the fight progressed, eventually being finished midway through Round 3. A loser of back-to-back fights and three of four dating back to July 2022, Semelsberger will likely be fighting or his job his next time out.

Can't defend takedown in loss
WelterweightUFC
April 23, 2023
Semelsberger lost to Jeremiah Wells via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a weird fight. Semelsberger was essentially dominated from bell-to-bell, but managed to remain slightly competitive due to the fact he was able to secure a knockdown in each of the first two rounds. Other than that, he was doomed by poor takedown defense. He allowed Wells to land 6-of-10 takedowns, essentially eliminating any chance he had of taking a decision. Semelsberger's 5-3 UFC record isn't too bad, although he's just a .500 fighter over the course of his last four fights dating back to March 2022.
