Fernando Padilla

Mexico

Gets right back in win column
LightweightUFC
March 23, 2024
Padilla defeated Luis Pajuelo via submission (D'arce choke) at 2:45 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Padilla was badly in need of a bounce-back performance on the heels of a unanimous decision defeat to Kyle Nelson last September as a -245 favorite, and he got it in a first-round stoppage of Pajuelo. Although it goes into the books as a submission win, Fernando badly damaged his opponent on the feet before choking him out. The finish would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Padilla already has 20 professional fights under his belt despite being just 27 years of age. He's alternated wins and losses in his first three UFC bouts.

Fighting Pajuelo
LightweightUFC
January 3, 2024
Padilla will fight Luis Pajuelo at UFC Vegas 88 on March 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Padilla took a loss at the hands of Kyle Nelson in his last fight in September, but Padilla will have an opportunity to bounce back against Pajuelo, who will be making his UFC debut. Padilla's lone UFC victory came in his own debut back in April against Julian Erosa.
Falls as significant favorite
LightweightUFC
September 16, 2023
Padilla lost to Kyle Nelson via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at Noche UFC on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a 101-second knockout of Julian Erosa in his UFC debut this past April, Padilla entered as a significant -245 favorite against Nelson, but faded considerably following a quick start. Fernando was the more active fighter in the opening frame, but Nelson found his footing over the final ten minutes to the point that all three judges scored the bout for him. The 26-year-old Padilla was wildly inconsistent in countless regional promotions prior to his UFC arrival, so it's zero surprise that has continued here.
Will take on Nelson
LightweightUFC
August 1, 2023
Padilla will take on Kyle Nelson on Sept. 16 at the T Mobile Arena, ESPN's Carlos Contreras reports.
ANALYSIS
Padilla isn't waiting long for his next fight after making quick work of Julian Erosa via TKO in his UFC debut back on April 29. Padilla will enter this fight with plenty of hype, but his opponent is coming off a massive upset over Blake Bildur to get his reputation back on track.
Quick knockout win in UFC debut
LightweightUFC
April 29, 2023
Padilla defeated Julian Erosa via TKO (punches) at 1:41 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The poor stoppage by referee Chris Tognoni is all that is going to be talked about in this fight, and rightfully so, but the 26-year-old Padilla looked excellent in his UFC debut. Fighting for the first time in nearly two years, Fernando unloaded on Erosa with everything but the kitchen sink. Julian was somehow still in the fight despite taking a massive beating, but Tognoni had seen enough a little less than two minutes in. Padilla absorbed next to no damage here, so expect him to try and get back to action as quickly as possible considering all the time he has missed.
New debut date set
LightweightUFC
March 20, 2023
Padilla is now scheduled to make his UFC debut against Julian Erosa in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for April 29 in Las Vegas, CC Legaspi of ESPN Deportes reports.
ANALYSIS
Padilla was scheduled to make his UFC debut all the way back in October of 2021, but an undisclosed issue prevented that from ever taking place. He last competed in May of 2021 under the banner of Fury FC and has won four of his last five pro fights heading into the scheduled April debut. Erosa, meanwhile, has been with the UFC off and on since 2015, and most recently, had a three-fight winning streak snapped by Alex Caceres in December.
