Brzeski defeated Dylan Potter via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:51 of Round 3 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
The official result will read a submission victory for Brzeski, but referee Mark Smith might have been a bit to quick to call the stoppage. Potter was bringing his hands up to attempt to peel off the choke, but Smith -- perhaps incorrectly -- saw this as a tapout. Whether or not you agree with the stoppage, the outcome certainly wouldn't have been any different. Brzeski was in top position racking up the ground-and-pound on a tired opponent, and even if Potter lasted another minute, Brzeski would have cruised to a decision. Brzeski now looks ahead to his UFC debut, though many on the telecast indicated he would ultimately be dropping down to light heavyweight after weighing in at 234.5 pounds for this event.
