Yazmin Jauregui

Mexico

Gets right back in win column
StrawweightUFC
February 24, 2024
Jauregui defeated Sam Hughes via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a 20-second knockout loss to Denise Gomes as a -400 favorite last July, Jauregui had no such issues at -650 here. Yazmin shut down the wrestling game of Hughes, stuffing all six of her takedown attempts and leaving openings for her to hammer her overmatched opponent on the feet. Jauregui struggles to generate secondary forms of offense, but she hits very hard for the strawweight division, as evidenced by her seven career wins via knockout. She remains one of the brightest prospects around at 115 pounds.

December 22, 2023
Jauregui will take on Sam Hughes at UFC Mexico on Feb. 24, according to Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Jauregui holds a 10-1 record and is one of the biggest names in the straw category. She'll be hungry for this bout, as she's coming off a disappointing loss to Denise Gomes via TKO in July.
Destroyed as huge favorite
StrawweightUFC
July 8, 2023
Jauregui lost to Denise Gomes via TKO (punches) at 0:20 of Round 1 at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Entering as upwards of a -400 favorite, Jauregui got clipped with an immediate combination and was never able to recover despite being given a generous amount of time by referee Jason Herzog. Jauregui began her UFC run with victories over Istela Nunes (TKO) and Iasmin Lucindo (unanimous decision), but it's difficult to make it three in a row when you fail to land a single strike. The lone bit of good news for Jauregui is that she's still just 24 years of age and has plenty of time to rebound from this setback.

ANALYSIS

Easy win in Orlando opener
StrawweightUFC
December 3, 2022
Jauregui defeated Istela Nunes via TKO (punches) at 4:06 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 42 on Saturday in Orlando.
ANALYSIS
It ended up being a lopsided rout for Jauregui, as it should have been considering she entered as a -350 favorite, second largest on a card scheduled for 14 bouts, but Yazmin had to survive a tough spot early on after being knocked down by an opponent in Nunes still searching for her first UFC victory. It was smooth sailing for Jauregui once she weathered that storm. She battered Nunes late in Round 1 and throughout Round 2 before referee Keith Peterson mercifully stepped in. There are likely to be some bumps in the road considering Yazmin will be turning just 24 years of age in late-February, but she's now picked up wins in each of her first two UFC bouts and remains undefeated as a professional.
