Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

This is a lineup built on value and a couple huge plays. I only gave one high-end pitcher, but two could be used with these bats, as only one is above average pricing. If you're looking for cheap, value plays, this group should help.

PITCHER

Michael Fulmer, DET vs. PIT ($36): The Tigers might not be a good team this season, but Fulmer is still a semi-elite pitcher. He looked great this spring with four earned runs and 15 strikeouts in 17 innings. The Pirates did whatever they wanted against Tigers pitching Friday, but Fulmer should provide a different challenge. It helps that he's one of the cheaper arms available.

Jacob deGrom, NYM vs. STL ($52):
DeGrom had a sore back in early spring, but those issues appear gone after five innings in a spring game two weeks ago to go with two intrasquad scrimmages. He managed 12 Ks in 7.2 innings of spring ball, and that's why you pay the big bucks for him. If you have doubts, the over/under for this game is just 7.5 runs.

CATCHER

Kurt Suzuki, ATL vs. PHI ($10): With Tyler Flowers on the 10-day DL, it makes sense that Suzuki will man the plate the next couple weeks. He had abnormally good numbers against left-handers last season, but this matchup should boost his numbers against righties. Vince Velasquez was torched by righties in 2017, giving up 2.39 homers per nine innings to go with a 4.52 xFIP. Suzuki was hit on the hand Friday night and had to leave the game. If he can't play, Chris Stewart ($7) would be an even cheaper good option.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL vs. MIN ($10): Davis found most of his power against right-handed pitching last season (.250 ISO), and that's where Kyle Gibson comes in. The righty was bad against both sides of the plate, but, more important, had a 4.76 xFIP and .358 wOBA allowed against lefties in 2017.

SECOND BASE

Logan Forsythe, LAD vs. SF ($11): It's almost like the Giants are giving away this game with Derek Holland on the mound. The lefty was blasted by righties last season with a .408 wOBA allowed and 5.97 xFIP. Forsythe is by no means a huge bat, but most of his positive numbers came against lefties last season, namely a .381 wOBA.

THIRD BASE

Alex Bregman, HOU at TEX ($20): If you want upside, anyone against Matt Moore is a good place to turn. Moore isn't good against either side of the plate and a 5.06 xFIP against right-handers stood out last season. Bregman's price shot up for this matchup for good reason ($14 on Thursday). He smoked left-handed pitching for a .406 wOBA and .239 ISO in 2017, much better than his numbers against righties.

SHORT STOP

Eduardo Escobar, MIN at BAL ($12): Escobar doesn't cost much, yet has a matchup that can be fruitful. Andrew Cashner doesn't have many positive stats and had a 5.96 xFIP and 11.9 BB% against lefties last season. Escobar was slightly better against righties in 2017 with a .324 wOBA and .216 ISO.

OUTFIELD

Jake Marisnick, HOU at TEX ($9): There's a decent chance Moore doesn't make it five innings against the Astros, which makes Marisnick is a great value pick. It helps that Marisnick was slightly better against lefties last season with a .347 wOBA. He still strikes out a lot, but that rate is smaller against southpaws (29.0 K%) and the upside is too good for the price.

Leonys Martin, DET vs. PIT ($7):
Martin was brutal against right-handers in 2017, but his career numbers say otherwise, and that's reason enough to gamble on him. Trevor Williams was beat up for 13 runs and 18 hits in 15.1 innings of spring ball and his 4.61 xFIP against lefties last season wasn't great, either.

Albert Almora Jr., CHC at MIA ($8):
I had Jason Heyward ($12) here against Odrisamer Despaigne, but after last night's 17-inning game, southpaw Dillon Peters had his start moved up. I'm still going with a Cub, though, since Peters was recalled only two days ago. He pitched just 7.2 innings this spring, allowing four runs and walking nine. I'll bank on Almora starting again after most of his success in 2017 came against lefties with a .386 wOBA and minimal 13.6 K%.
