Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Saturday's top pitchers all face strong lineups, so I'm taking a different route with slightly cheaper arms. That should leave some room to go big on a couple outfielders and an infielder or two. There's rain expected, but most of it is scattered so it shouldn't be a major issue.

PITCHER

Trevor Bauer, CLE at MIN ($49): Bauer's price still doesn't make sense, so he's my top pick. He's been one of the elite pitchers this season with a 2.61 ERA and 10.70 K/9, which has amounted to 26 fantasy points per start. The Twins are below average against righties over the last month with a .310 wOBA.

Mike Montgomery, CHC at NYM ($36): I'm taking a chance with Montgomery, but I've had recent success against the Mets so I'll keep it rolling. Montgomery was solid in a spot start last week, going 5.2 innings and giving up only two hits. At this price, the hope is that he reaches at least 20 fantasy points, which should be in the cards against the worst team in the majors against southpaws. The Mets also rank last in most categories with a 26.9 K%, .099 ISO and .269 wOBA.

CATCHER

John Ryan Murphy, ARI vs. MIA ($14): I'd be surprised if Murphy wasn't starting, as most of his success has come against lefties with four homers and a .333 BABIP in 35 plate appearances. Caleb Smith is pitching well, but his career 4.54 xFIP against righties is still troublesome against better lineups.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. MIA ($12): Similar to Murphy, Goldschmidt has been roping southpaws with five homers and a .344 BABIP, which comes a year after a .280 ISO. Smith roasted his last two opponents, but they were two of the worst in the MLB against lefties. The Diamondbacks sport a team .201 ISO and Goldschmidt's price is too hard to pass up with a lefty on the mound.

SECOND BASE

Cesar Hernandez, PHI at SF ($18):Andrew Suarez is getting another start for the Giants, which is why I'm grabbing at least one Phillie. Hernandez has a better .390 BABIP against lefties after a .176 ISO and .347 wOBA in 2017. There's little reason to trust Suarez with a 2.63 HR/9 and at least three runs given up in his last four starts.

THIRD BASE

Eugenio Suarez, CIN at SD ($25): Suarez isn't often a popular player to spend on, but his four homers and .458 BABIP (46 plate appearances) against southpaws qualifies as a good reason to do so. Even better, Eric Lauer has given up at least four runs in three of his last four outings – with most of those against righties.

SHORTSTOP

Freddy Galvis, SD vs. CIN ($10): Galvis isn't a huge bat as represented in his price, but is worth a try against an iffy Matt Harvey. The righty hurler has pitched a little better with the Reds, but still has only pitched 19.1 innings in his last four outings to go with a terrible 3.04 HR/9 against lefty bats.

OUTFIELD

Matt Kemp, LAD at COL ($19): Kemp's bat is hot and it only makes sense to use him at Coors Field. He has a solid 12 extra-base hits – including 5 HR – and .379 BABIP against righties after cracking a .211 ISO last season. German Marquez has pitched a couple strong outings, but his career .356 wOBA against righties remains an issue.

Brett Gardner, NYY at BAL ($18): After a slow start, Gardner is back to resembling 2017 numbers against righties, with a .191 ISO and .359 wOBA. Kevin Gausman gave up seven runs to the Rays last time out and has an early 4.39 xFIP against lefty bats, which isn't good enough against this Yankees lineup.

Dexter Fowler, STL vs. PIT ($8): Fowler is only playing against righties, which means he should get the call against Chad Kuhl. The righty pitcher struggles against lefty bats with a career .374 wOBA and 5.09 xFIP. That's good enough for Fowler, who hasn't hit much this season, yet still had a .243 ISO and .368 wOBA against righties last year.
