2019 Fantasy Outlook
Wood will join the Pistons after Detroit picked him up off waivers. He flashed dominant abilities in the G League and during a very brief stint with New Orleans last season, going for 16.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 23.6 minutes across eight games with the Pelicans. Wood hasn't caught on with any of the four teams he's played for in his three-year career, but he continues to show big upside which landed him a roster spot with the Pistons for the 2019-20 season. He's averaged 17.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per 36 minutes in his career, and significant playing time could put Wood on the fantasy radar. He'll have a tough time seeing the court with Thon Maker, Sekou Doumbouya and Markieff Morris all vying for a backup role in the frontcourt. Wood is probable safe to go undrafted in all but the deepest of leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio

Christian Wood was born in Long Beach, California in 1995. He is the son of Jeanette Stewart. He started his high school basketball career at Knight High School in Palmdale, California. Just before his senior year, Wood transferred to Findlay College Prep in Henderson, Nevada. Wood led Findlay to 54 straight high school victories, where Wood's Pilots also won an ESPN National High School Invitational championship in 2012. Wood's favorite food is sushi. Fans can follow the 6-foot-10 big man on both Twitter and Instagram (@Chriswood_5).

College/International Summary

Wood spent two seasons playing for coach Dave Rice at UNLV from 2013-15. As a freshman, he mainly came off the bench in support of Khem Birch and Roscoe Smith. The 6-foot-11 forward made two starts in 30 games and scored in double digits three times. Wood's playing time was highly variable, and he finished with averages of 4.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 13.0 minutes. Birch and Smith moved on after the season and Wood became the go-to player for the Rebels. He started 32 games a sophomore and provided 15.7 points to go along with 10.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks, which were both second in the conference. Wood scored at least 20 points in a game eight times. He led UNLV past Fresno State with 27 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocks. Despite 21 points and eight boards from Wood, the Rebels were eliminated from the conference tournament in the second round. After the season, the forward declared for the 2015 NBA Draft but went undrafted before signing a contract with the 76ers in September.

Wood is fully recovered from coronavirus, as he tested negative late Wednesday night, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wood is the first known NBA player to fully recover from coronavirus, for which he tested positive nearly two weeks ago. This is a good step forward for Wood and the league, but there are still many more hurdles to clear before the season starts back up in some capacity.

2019

Wood appeared in 62 games for the Pistons during the 2019-20 season. He averaged per-game career highs in points (13.1), rebounds (6.3), assists (1.0), threes (0.9), blocks (0.9) and steals (0.5). He also shot career highs in field-goal percentage (56.7), three-point percentage (38.6) and free-throw percentage (74.4). Wood set new single-game career highs of 32 points, 14 rebounds, five threes and five assists. His other single-game season highs were four blocks and three steals. He also had 12 double-doubles. Arguably his best performance of the season occurred Mar. 11 against the 76ers. In 39 minutes, Wood posted 32 points (14-18 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 1-4 FT), seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. It was one of his two 30-point games. Wood's longest double-digit scoring streak was the final 16 games of the year. In 33.0 minutes per game, he averaged 21.6 points on 14.3 shots, 9.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 combined steals-plus-blocks.

2018

After spending the 2017-18 season in the G League, Christian Wood he spent the 2018-19 season with the Bucks, G League Wisconsin Herd and the Pelicans. With both NBA teams, Wood displayed an ability to pile up the offensive statistics in a short amount of playing time. Although he played just 12 minutes per contest, Wood averaged an impressive 8.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. The UNLV alum shot over 52 percent from the field while nailing nearly 35 percent (34.6) of his shots from three-point land. Wood started with the Bucks, playing 13 games for Milwaukee and 28 games for the Herd. On Mar. 18, he was waived by the Bucks. Two days later, Wood was claimed by the Pelicans. For New Orleans' final eight games, Wood took his game to a new level. Over that span, Wood posted 16.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.3 blocks per game for the Pelicans. He delivered double figures in scoring in all but two of those contests, including a 25-point game against Sacramento on Mar. 28 and a career-high 26-point (and 12-rebound) effort against Golden State in the season finale on Apr. 9. He also blocked a whopping six shots against the Hawks on Mar. 26. If those contributions weren't enough, Wood proved to be a solid free-throw shooter. The 6-foot-10 forward has averaged 73.3 percent from the line over the past two seasons.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Undrafted out of UNLV last season, Wood split his rookie year between the 76ers and their D-League affiliate in Delaware. In 17 games for the Sixers, Wood averaged 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, with most of his minutes coming in garbage time. He unsurprisingly fared much better in the D-League, posting averages of 17.3 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in just under 29 minutes per game. The 6-foot-11 Wood knocked down 52.9 percent of his field-goal attempts but struggled to convert at a meager 25.3 percent clip from beyond the arc. After signing a two-year deal with Charlotte in July, Wood has some short-term stability, though the second year of the contract is a team option. The 21-year-old will likely again spend considerable time in the D-League in 2016-17, where he'll look to prove he's developed enough to warrant a consistent bench role at the NBA level.
Wood surprisingly went undrafted this year even after averaging 15.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 2.7 blocks in 33 minutes per game through 33 contests at UNLV. After not getting a call on draft night, Wood agreed to sign as a free agent with the Rockets. Wood measures at 6-11, 216 pounds and has a wingspan of 7-3. While the Rockets frontcourt will be stacked this season (Dwight Howard, Terrence Jones, Donatas Motiejunas, and Montrezl Harrell), general manager Daryl Morey must see something in the skinny, interesting prospect, and he could develop into something special if given the time. Until then, however, Wood doesn't appear to have much fantasy value this season unless a lot of the other options for the Rockets go down with an injury first.
