Buckley announced his retirement from the CFL on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old Buckley, a native of Calgary, spent the past two seasons with his hometown Stampeders team, seeing the field primarily in short-yardage situations. During that time, the dual-threat quarterback logged 57 carries for 157 yards and 11 touchdowns -- with the eight he recorded in 2016 matching a CFL single-season record for signal callers -- and added 326 yards and a score through the air while completing 33 of 44 passes. In lieu of continuing his football career, Buckley plans to become a doctor after gaining acceptance into medical school at the University of Calgary.
