RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed 11 times for 41 yards and a touchdown and added three catches for 54 yards in the Alouettes' 28-18 loss to the Redblacks on Friday.

Despite yet another Alouettes loss, Sutton was a solid offensive fixture. The veteran back opened the scoring on the night for Montreal with a two-yard touchdown run at the 9:29 mark of the first quarter, evening the score at 6-6. The 31-year-old Northwestern product's rushing opportunities were significantly limited in the second half due to his team's deficit, but Sutton had a chance to display his ability in the passing game with a pair of impressive receptions in the latter portion of the game. Despite the Als' overall futility, Sutton retains a consistent and steady role in the offense and thus remains a viable fantasy option moving forward.

July 1, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed for 20 yards on 11 carries and caught four passes for 18 yards in Saturday's 23-17 win over Saskatchewan.

Saturday marks Sutton's worst performance of the young season, as he had not failed to total at least 81 yards in Weeks 1 or 2. He was partially a victim of game flow, however. The Alouettes took advantage of four interceptions and some big return plays to set up good field position and were able to win without moving the ball effectively. The good news is that the Northwestern product once again got all the work at running back. He'll try to rebound at home Week 4 against Ottawa.

June 22, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed four times for 53 yards and added three catches for 25 yards in the Alouettes' 56-10 loss to the Blue Bombers on Friday.

The veteran back's game-long 44-yard run was one of the few highlights of the night for the Alouettes, as they were thoroughly dominated for the majority of the game. Sutton was also a solid presence in the passing attack again, with his modest 28 receiving yards checking in second only to Eugene Lewis on Montreal for the night. Sutton should normally see double-digit carries and 3-5 targets in the passing game at a minimum in the majority of non-blowout scenarios, so Friday's limited rushing opportunities should be taken with a grain of salt. He'll look to bounce back in Week 3 versus the Roughriders.

June 17, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed 15 times for 65 yards and added five receptions for 31 yards in Saturday's 22-10 loss to the Lions.

Sutton racked up 29 of those yards on the ground with rush attempts on five of Montreal's first seven plays, en route to the only Alouette touchdown drive of the day. The Northwestern product saw all but one of his team's carries, and while he only averaged 4.3 YPC in Week 1, he has never averaged fewer than 5.2 YPC over any of his five seasons in the league. Thus, the 31-year-old will be a good bet for continued production Week 2 at home against the Blue Bombers.

June 1, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton had three carries for 19 yards in Thursday's preseason game against the Redblacks.

The Alouettes took it easy with Sutton in their first preseason game, as the goal was just to get him a little contact before the regular season kicks off in a couple weeks. Sutton was Montreal's top running back last year, and he is set to fill that role again in 2018.

January 8, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton signed a contract with the Alouettes on Monday, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Sutton, who has spent the past five seasons in Montreal, opted to stick with the Alouettes rather than test the free-agent market next month. He appeared in 14 games for Montreal last season, compiling 843 yards and five touchdowns on 152 carries while adding another 312 yards and one touchdown on 44 catches.

November 3, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton will not play during Friday's game against the Tiger-Cats, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Sutton was originally listed as the team's third-string running back for the contest, but has since been scratched. Brandon Rutley and Dillon Campbell will seemingly be the only two players seeing time at running back Friday.

November 2, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton is listed as the third-string running back on the Alouettes' Week 20 depth chart.

The Alouettes will use the final game of the regular season to evaluate some non-regulars for next season, and the depth chart indicates Brandon Rutley and Dillon Campbell will both work ahead of Sutton on Friday against the Tiger-Cats.

October 28, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball eight times for 45 yards and added three catches for 28 yards in Friday's 37-12 loss to the Roughriders.

He was effective on the ground when he got the chance, but the Als had to give up on their running game in the second half, limiting Sutton's production. While it would take a huge effort next Friday in Hamilton during the season's final game for Sutton to break 1,000 rushing yards, he's already set a new career high with 44 receptions on the season and sits only 23 receiving yards away from a new personal best in that category as well.

October 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed 10 times for 18 yards and a touchdown while also posting one reception for two yards in Sunday's 43-16 loss to the Tiger-Cats.

After exploding for well over 100 yards rushing in two of his last three games, Sutton was stonewalled by a tough Tiger-Cats front Sunday. The veteran tailback generated his second-lowest yards-per-carry figure in a game this season, although he salvaged his afternoon somewhat with a one-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter, his third rushing score in the last four games. Sutton's downturn in production looks to have likely been a byproduct of the Alouettes' overall struggles, so he'll look to bounce back against the Roughriders in Week 19.

October 9, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 14 times for 139 yards and a touchdown while adding five catches for 37 yards in Monday's 42-24 loss to Edmonton.

With Drew Willy and the Als passing game getting nowhere on a rainy afternoon, Sutton got plenty of touches and responded with his best performance of the season. Darian Durant (lower body) should be back under center once the team returns from their Week 17 bye, but Sutton should remain one of the focal points of their offense as they close out their schedule.

September 30, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed 11 times for 37 yards and hauled in four receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 59-11 loss to the Stampeders.

As customary, those looking for a bright spot in an another Alouettes blowout loss could focus on Sutton, who once again made solid contributions and scored the team's only touchdown. He couldn't come close to matching his Week 14 breakout rushing effort, but he was able to tally at least four catches for the third consecutive game. Sutton now has the second-highest reception total of his career (35) and remains well on pace to eclipse his high-water mark of 43, which he accomplished in 2015. He'll look to make an impact in Week 16 tilt against the Eskimos' vulnerable run defense.

September 24, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed 15 times for 105 yards and a touchdown and added five receptions for 42 yards in Saturday's 33-19 loss to the Argonauts.

Sutton followed up a solid 70-yard rushing effort in Week 13 with a season-best yardage total on the ground Saturday. The veteran running back's effort represented one of the few positives for the Als on a night when QB Darian Durant threw three interceptions. With the team's quarterback situation in fairly dire straits and a matchup against the tough Stampeders secondary in Week 15, it's possible that Sutton will be leaned on heavily once again.

September 17, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed seven times for 70 yards and totaled four receptions for 18 yards in Sunday's 29-11 loss to the Redblacks.

After two lackluster games where he'd totaled a combined 27 yards on the ground, Sutton bounced back with his best rushing total since Week 4. The 10.0 yards per tote was Sutton's highest total of the season, while his four receptions also equaled a personal best in 2017. Sutton will look to replicate the effort when the Alouettes face off with the Argonauts in Week 14.

September 9, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton rushed seven times for 23 yards and added two receptions for 22 yards in Friday's 41-18 loss to the Lions.

A week after his worst rushing effort of the season (six rushes, four yards) against Redblacks, Sutton wasn't a whole lot better Friday. He also saw single-digit carries for the third straight week, a discouraging development for fantasy purposes after he'd logged double-digit totes in four of his first five games. Sutton's role in the passing game does continue to be consistent, albeit relatively modest. He'll look to produce a better all-around effort in a Week 13 rematch versus the Redblacks.

August 31, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) gained just four yards on six rushes and added three receptions for 15 yards in Thursday's 32-4 loss to the Redblacks.

The extent of Sutton's struggles on the ground were such that he logged six yards on one rush and then tallied minus-two on his five other carries. The fact that he was dealing with a sore knee that caused him to miss the Week 10 tilt against the Bombers certainly didn't help matters either. The normally reliable Sutton has been extremely efficient outside of Thursday, as he'd averaged at least 5.0 yards per carry in five of his other six contests. He'll look to bounce back against the Lions in Week 12.

August 30, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) is listed as the starting running back for Thursday's game against the Redblacks.

Sutton found himself in the same spot on the depth chart last week only to be scratched prior to game time, so he is not a lock to play this week just yet. Fellow running back Brandon Rutley will not be available this week, so if Sutton is unable to go, Stefan Logan would serve as Montreal's top option in the backfield.

August 27, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) took part in Sunday's practice, Didier Ormejuste of RDS reports.

Sutton sat out Montreal's last game Thursday, but his return to the practice field Sunday gives him a chance to return for the team's Week 11 matchup with the Redblacks.

August 24, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) will not play during Thursday's game against the Blue Bombers.

Despite being listed as the starter Wednesday, it appears Sutton's knee is still bothering him too much to take the field. As a result, Brandon Rutley will seemingly draw the start in his stead.

August 23, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) is listed as the starting running back for Thursday's game against the Blue Bombers.

Sutton missed practice time this week due to his injury, but as of now it appears he will still be able to take the field Thursday. Final confirmation regarding his Week 10 status will come when the Alouettes release their game-day inactives. If Sutton is unable to go, Brandon Rutley would get the start in his place.

August 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton's status for Thursday's game against the Blue Bombers is uncertain due to a bruised knee, according to the Montreal Gazette.

Sutton's injury does not appear overly serious, but it has cost him practice time this week, so it could prevent him from playing in Week 10. If Sutton is unable to go this week, Brandon Rutley would get the start in his place.

August 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried eight times for 41 yards and added three receptions for 21 yards in Saturday's 38-6 loss to the Argos.

Considering the flow of the contest, Sutton's numbers were actually serviceable. His presence as an outlet option out of the backfield helped him round out his production, and he now has at least three receptions in four straight contests. Sutton is also averaging an impressive 5.5 yards per carry on his 74 rushes and serves as a viable mid-priced DFS option each week. He'll look to bounce back with a more prolific all-around effort against the Bombers next Thursday.

August 11, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 15 times for 66 yards and added three catches for 27 yards in Friday's 21-9 win over the Argos.

He looked none the worse for wear after missing the last two games with an illness. Montreal continues to field what has looked like the best defense in the CFL, which should lead to plenty of second-half touches for Sutton going forward as the club tries to protect leads and kill clocks.

August 10, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (calf) will return to action for Friday's game against the Argonauts, Mathieu Boulay of Le Journal de Montreal reports.

Sutton sat out Montreal's last two games due to his calf injury and left Wednesday's practice with an illness, but neither setback will prevent him from taking the field Friday. He figures to see his regular workload in Week 8 so long as fellow running back Brandon Rutley (hand) is scratched like he usually is when Sutton is available.

August 9, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (calf) left practice Wednesday due to a stomach ailment, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Head coach Jacques Chapdelaine did not seem concerned about Sutton's illness when asked, so it's unlikely it will have an effect on his status for Week 8. As long as that is the case, Sutton appears to be on track to take the field this week for the first time since Week 4. Final confirmation on his status for Friday's matchup with the Argonauts will come later this week.

August 7, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (calf) participated in practice Monday, Didier Ormejuste of RDS.ca reports.

After injuring his calf in mid-July and sitting out numerous games, Sutton appears to be heading in the right direction considering his ability to participate in practice Monday. Brandon Rutley has been replacing him in the lineup, but keep an eye out for Sutton as he may be nearing a return.

July 26, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (calf) has been ruled out for Thursday's matchup vs. the Argonauts.

The absence will mark Sutton's second straight, as he continues to recover from a calf injury. Look for Brandon Rutley to once again replace him in the lineup, seeing an increase in carries as a result. The team may simply be exercising caution with Sutton, as they have a bye next week, thus giving him extra time to recover.

July 17, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton is dealing with a calf injury and has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Redblacks, Didier Ormejuste of RDS.ca reports.

It's unclear exactly when Sutton suffered the injury, but the fact that he's being ruled out multiple days in advance likely means it's more than just a minor ailment. He'll sit out at least Wednesday's contest against the Redblacks, while his availability for next Thursday's tilt with the Blue Bombers is also in question. Brandon Rutley is expected to replace him in the lineup, so he should see an uptick in carries out of the backfield.

July 14, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 17 times for 85 yards and a touchdown while adding three catches for 22 yards in Friday's 30-23 win over the Stampeders.

After Calgary scored 11 straight points in the third quarter to take the lead, Sutton's TD to kick off the fourth swung the momentum back in Montreal's favor. The 30-year-old now has 360 yards from scrimmage (295 rushing, 65 receiving) through four games, and if he can stay healthy he could be headed for a career year.

July 6, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball nine times for 54 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches for 18 yards in Thursday's 23-16 loss to the Lions.

The TD was his first of the season and tied the game up midway through the fourth quarter, but Montreal's defense couldn't hold BC back down the stretch. Sutton is now averaging a solid 84.3 combined yards through three games heading into next week's clash with the high-powered Stampeders.

July 1, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 12 times for 88 yards and caught two passes for 18 yards in Friday's 23-19 loss to Edmonton.

It was another productive game for Sutton, who's now racked up 181 yards from scrimmage through the first two games of the season. Injuries suppressed his numbers last year, but the 30-year-old did rush for over 1,000 yards in 2015 and seems likely to do so again in 2017 if he stays healthy.

June 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 13 times for 68 yards in Thursday's 17-16 win over the Roughriders.

He also caught two passes for seven yards. Sutton played only seven games last season due to knee and rib injuries, but he topped 1,000 rushing yards in 2015 and figures to be productive again this year as the Als' top running back.

June 16, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton had five carries for 60 yards in the Alouettes' preseason finale on Thursday.

Sutton was held out of Montreal's first exhibition contest, but he was expected to play in the second game and did just that. Sutton had a 30-yard burst Thursday and was also effective on his other attempts, so the Alouettes' starting running back appears ready to go for Week 1.

June 12, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton's 2016 campaign was marred by injuries, so Montreal decided to limit him to just one preseason contest. He is on track to open the season as the Alouettes' top running back once again.

October 14, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (ribs) has been placed on the six-game injured list and will not play Saturday against the Stampeders.

Sutton will miss a second straight game due to the rib injury he is dealing with. It remains to be seen when he will return to action, but Brandon Rutley will work as the starting running back in his absence.

October 6, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (ribs) will not play Monday against Edmonton, Didier Ormejuste of RDS reports.

The running back was forced from the fourth quarter during Sunday's game due to his rib injury, and it has remained an issue for Sutton as he's been unable to participate in practice and will miss more game time Monday. Brandon Rutley will replace Sutton as starting running back.

October 6, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton will not practice Thursday due to an undisclosed injury, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports.

It's not clear what type of setback Sutton is dealing with, but the injury forced him from Sunday's game in the fourth quarter, and it apparently remains an issue. Fellow running back Brandon Rutley landed on the six-game injured list last week with an injury of an own, leaving Stefan Logan as the only healthy running back on the roster heading into Week 16.

October 3, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 10 times for a season-high 83 yards in Sunday's win over the Argos.

He also caught two passes for zero yards. Sutton has now topped 70 rushing yards in three of the last four games, and should continue to see enough touches to remain productive for the Alouettes down the stretch.

September 17, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 11 times for 71 yards while adding five catches for 44 yards in Friday's loss to the Tiger-Cats.

He was the only member of the Alouettes' offense to have much success Friday, as their only touchdown came on a blocked punt. Despite playing in just six games so far this year, Sutton still sits seventh in the CFL in rushing yards with 329.

September 10, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton carried the ball 11 times for 52 yards while catching three passes for 35 yards in Friday's loss to the Lions.

In three games since returning from his knee injury, Sutton now has a modest 156 rushing yards and 103 receiving yards and has yet to get into the end zone. His starting job wouldn't seem to be in any danger but with the Alouettes' offense in flux right now, his fantasy ceiling could remain limited.

September 2, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton totaled 71 yards on 10 rushes and added three yards on his only catch in Thursday's 19-14 loss to the Redblacks.

The 29-year-old received double-digit carries for the third time in the four games he's participated in this season, while also setting a season high in rushing yards. Sutton's success on the ground was in direct contrast with his Week 10 line, when he totaled a season-high 65 yards through the air. Regardless of whether it's on the ground or the passing game, Sutton is undeniably a vital cog in the Als' offensive machine on a weekly basis.

August 27, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Week 2 in Friday's 32-18 loss to the Blue Bombers, gaining 33 yards on 10 carries and totaling 65 yards on seven receptions.

The veteran running back looked to be recovered from the knee injury that had kept him sidelined since June 30, but couldn't find much running room against a stingy Winnipeg run defense. However, he made meaningful contributions through the air, tallying season highs in both receptions and yards. He did see backup QB Vernon Adams, Jr. vulture a rushing touchdown opportunity, leaving Sutton still in search of his first visit to the end zone of 2016. The 29-year-old will look to break the ice when the Als take on the Redblacks in Week 11.

August 25, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) is listed as the Alouettes' starting running back for Friday's game against the Blue Bombers.

Sutton returned to practice earlier this week after recovering from a knee injury, and the Alouettes' depth chart confirms that he will start Friday for the first time since Week 2. Sutton faced the Blue Bombers in Week 1 in his only full game of the season and racked up 105 total yards on 19 touches.

August 22, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton (knee) is expected to return to action this week against the Blue Bombers, the Montreal Gazette reports.

Sutton has been sidelined since injuring his knee in Week 2, but he practiced with the first team at Monday's practice, setting the stage for him to get back on the field this Friday. He tallied 19 touches and 105 total yards in his lone full game this season as the primary running back, a role he figures to fill for the Alouettes moving forward.

July 2, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton was placed on the 6-game injured list with an MCL (knee) injury, AJ Jakubec of TSN 1200 reports.

Sutton produced 39 yards on eight carries in Thursday's loss to the Redblacks, good for 4.9 yards per tote. He also generated 20 yards through the air. Given the productive evening, it's not clear exactly when Sutton sustained the injury. At any rate, Montreal's depth will be tested with wide receiver SJ Green out for the season with a knee injury of his own, and running back Wayne Moore on the 6-game injured list due to a separated shoulder. The silver lining for the Alouettes is that they don't take the field again until July 15, a home game against Hamilton.

June 30, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton gained 39 yards on eight carries and added another 20 yards on five catches in Thursday's 28-13 loss to the Redblacks.

The 2015 CFL rushing leader didn't enjoy as productive a day as he had in the opener, when he'd tallied 105 yards combined through the ground and air. Sutton was certainly serviceable enough in the opportunities he did receive, but with Montreal falling behind by a significant margin, he was unable to approach the 15 carries he'd been afforded in Week 1. If receivers S.J. Green (leg) and Duron Carter (potential suspension) can't take the field in Week 4 against the Tigercats, Sutton could play a much more pivotal role in the offensive gameplan.

June 25, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton ran the ball 15 times for 66 yards while catching four passes for 39 yards in Friday's 22-14 win over the Blue Bombers.

It was a strong start to the season for Sutton, who emerged as a star in 2015 with a CFL-leading 1059 rushing yards plus 334 receiving yards. The Alouettes' offense should be better through the air this year with Kevin Glenn under center, but Sutton still figures to be one of their primary weapons.

June 18, 2016

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Sutton ran the ball six times for a team-high 32 yards in Friday's preseason win over the Argos.

Last year's CFL rushing champ looks ready to pick up where he left off in 2015. The Alouettes brought in veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn late last season to help stabilize what had been one of the worst passing offenses in the league, but they still figure to lean heavily on Sutton to move the chains in 2016.
