2018 Fantasy Outlook
The seventh overall pick in the draft, Allen is expected to sit to at least start the year in Buffalo. Coach Sean McDermott said Allen will compete in training camp with AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman for the starting job, but scouts question whether Allen's game is ready for the NFL. At 6-5, 237, Allen has perfect size for a quarterback, and he has one of the league's strongest arms. But he struggled mightily with accuracy in college at Wyoming, and the need to work on his decision-making and timing likely means he's destined for the backup job behind McCarron. Allen can make all the throws - downfield, outside the numbers, on the run, what have you - but playing behind a shaky offensive line (it lost three starters) with few receiving threats besides Kelvin Benjamin is a tough proposition for any rookie. Nevertheless, McCarron, the four-year backup in Cincinnati, is unproven as well, and whoever emerges with the job is likely to spend more time in a game-manager role than anything, with LeSean McCoy remaining the offensive centerpiece. Feeling 100 percent
QBBuffalo Bills
April 17, 2019
Allen noted Tuesday that his throwing elbow feels perfectly fine entering offseason workouts, The Buffalo News reports. "No, no consideration. Obviously in the offseason, I met with [a physical trainer] to go over everything because it compounds throughout the season," Allen said. "I did some therapy on [the elbow] for the first couple weeks, and after that I started throwing. No problems at all."
ANALYSIS
Allen missed four straight games with an elbow injury before returning to start the final six contests of his rookie season. Not only is Allen's health in good order, but the weak Buffalo offense received a major boost this offseason with the Bills getting heavily involved in free agency and making most of their moves on that side of the ball. Allen's line should be improved, while players like John Brown, Cole Beasley, Tyler Kroft and Frank Gore give the offense more zest. Given Allen's strong running ability (631 and a whopping eight rushing scores in 2018), the second-year signal-caller would be quite the dynamic fantasy play if the team can establish a more respectable passing game.
