2019 Fantasy Outlook
Fant's splashy film at Iowa caught everyone's attention, especially since the scouting community is desperately looking for the next George Kittle - another Hawkeye - to come about. Fant's good-but-not-dominant college stats can be directly tied to the depth of the Iowa roster; a superior prospect, No. 8 overall pick T.J. Hockenson, shared work with Fant the past couple years. The prospect hounds were drooling when Fant destroyed the combine with a 4.5 40-yard dash and 39.5-inch vertical, but sometimes his play on the field wasn't as interesting - he struggled with dropped passes in college. Add it all up and the usual rules apply - we're plenty interested in Fant's future, but rookie tight ends are generally seen and not heard from, at least for fantasy purposes. The Broncos also have some other competition for TE snaps, bringing back Jeff Heuerman on a two-year, $8 million contract despite his uninspired performance last year. Toss in a shaky quarterback situation and it's a lot for a rookie tight end to overcome. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Denver makes this pick after trading the 10th pick to Pittsburgh. Fant is the most athletic tight end prospect in the class at 6-foot-4 1/8 and 249 pounds, with a 4.5 40-yard dash and a 39.5-inch vertical jump. His best season came as a sophomore when he caught 30 passes for 494 yards and a whopping 11 touchdowns before being slightly overshadowed by fellow first-rounder T.J. Hockenson in Iowa's offense. Fant is raw in some facets of his game and his blocking will be something that needs major work if he is to develop into an every-down piece of Denver's system. However, his athleticism and pass-catching upside can make him a mismatch up the seam if used properly. At the very least, Fant becomes the top pass-catching tight end in Denver right away.
