23-Year-Old DefensemanD
New York Rangers
2018 Fantasy Outlook
Pionk performed well in his first NHL action last season, posting 14 points in 28 games, including five on the power play. He'll almost certainly wind up spending the full season with the big club this time around, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the 23-year-old defenseman skating on the second defensive pairing and second power-play unit. The University of Minnesota-Duluth product has good offensive instincts on the blue line and held his own with a minus-1 rating as a rookie, so there's a lot to like about Pionk, especially in dynasty formats. First goal since December
DNew York Rangers
March 15, 2019
Pionk scored his sixth goal of the season in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Flames.
ANALYSIS
Pionk had been held out of the goal column since Dec. 22 -- a span of 29 games during which he collected only two helpers. The undrafted 23-year-old started the season well, but he has seen his production dry up since the calendar flipped to 2019. Pionk has five goals and 17 helpers in 62 appearances this season, and he also carries a minus-11 rating.
