DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA at COL ($7,800): This is a manageable salary for Gibson. The backstops numbers have improved in each start this year, and he's posted a .935 save percentage and 2.37 GAA through his past three outings. The Avalanche have surprised offensively to start the season, but it would be surprising to see Anaheim take them lightly. Plus, Colorado's roster hasn't changed significantly since their historically poor 2016-17 campaign.

CENTER

Ryan Getzlaf, ANA at COL ($7,100): After recording two helpers in his latest game, Getzlaf proved his health after missing the first two contests of the season. Additionally, the go-to center has stepped right back into a huge offensive role with an average of 23:03 of ice time per game, including 5:52 with the man advantage. Don't underrate the bonus of having practiced with opposing goalie Jonathan Berneir last season when the netminder was with the Ducks.

Mikael Backlund, CGY vs. OTT ($4,200): The Senators are on the front end of a back-to-back set and are still without Erik Karlsson (foot). It's a nice fantasy setup for Calgary, and Backlund checks out as an excellent value. With Ottawa likely looking to slow down the top line, Backlund should see soft five-on-five matchups. He also sees power-play time with the second unit and has marked the scoresheet in three consecutive games.

WING

Matthew Tkachuk, CGY vs. OTT ($4,800): A strong stacking option alongside linemate Mikael Backlund, Tkachuk is coming off a monster showing with two goals and eight shots. As noted, this matchup sets up nicely for the Flames, as Ottawa's depleted blue line should struggle to contain Calgary's second line. Tkachuk offers excellent value at this salary, too.

Jonathan Marchessault, LAS vs. DET ($4,500): Without a point through the first three games of the season, Marchessault checks out as a solid buy-low candidate. He's coming off a 30-goal campaign and is locked into a top offensive role with the Golden Knights. Additionally, Detroit is on the wrong end of back-to-back road games after losing to Arizona on Thursday.

Pierre-Luc Dubois, CLM vs. NYR ($3,600): After scoring in his first career game, Dubois has been held off the scoresheet in consecutive outings. He's currently skating with Alexander Wennberg on the top line and receiving power-play time with the second unit. Dubois checks out as a source of cap relief with upside after posting 63 goals and 154 points through 110 games over his final two seasons in the QMJHL.

DEFENSE

Cam Fowler, ANA at COL ($5,600): With an injury-riddled Anaheim blue line, Fowler has averaged 26:15 of ice time (4:13 on the power play) per night to start the season. Playing nearly half the game positions him in a ripe fantasy spot, and Fowler has posted respectable fantasy numbers with a goal, two points, seven shots and six blocked shots through four games. His role on the No. 1 power-play unit pairs nicely with Ryan Getzlaf, too.

Mark Giordano, CGY vs. OTT ($4,900): With 14 shots and 17 blocked shots through the first four games of the season, Girodano doesn't even need to find the scoresheet to reward on this salary. The veteran defenseman skates on the same power-play unit as Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk, so he's another solid value to consider in a Calgary stack.
