To fight Carmouche on July 20
May 14, 2019
Modaferri will face off against Liz Carmouche in a flyweight matchup at UFC Fight Night on ESPN on July 20 in San Antonio, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
Modaferri's most recent fight was a split decision victory against Antonina Schevchenko, but she's alternated wins and losses across her past four fights overall. In the Shevchenko fight, Modaferri was outlanded 33 to 64 in terms of signficant strikes, but still provided a respectable score for fantasy owners by recording five takedowns and passing guard on five occasions. Both women are considered pioneers in female mixed martial arts, and with each ranked in the top-5, the winner will land squarely in the title conversation. Modaferri will hold the edge in both height and reach when the Octagon door closes, while Carmouche has superior wrestling statistics, in addition to crisper striking defense.

Shows her veteran game
April 20, 2019
Moddafferi defeated Antonina Shevchenko via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Saint Petersburg.
This might be considered a bit of an upset, but in the end experience won out in this one. Shevchenko came out looking like the much more technical striker, but that did not turn out to matter. Modafferi was able to score takedowns and control the fight in the clinch. Shevchenko could not get her striking going without giving up the takedowns. Modafferi could not really get her striking going on the ground, but she was able to pass and move through the guard. This was an overall impressive from the veteran.
Drops decision to Sijara Eubanks at UFC 230
November 3, 2018
Modafferi lost to Sijara Eubanks via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 230 on Saturday in New York City.
Modafferi didn't have to accept this fight after Eubanks missed weight on Friday, but Modafferi is never one to pass up the opportunity to get in there and test her skills. She did a decent job of remaining competitive despite the fact she was giving up a ton of brute strength to Eubanks. Modafferi is one of the true pioneers of women's MMA, but she's a poor athlete and she has little power in her hands. There is little reason to be excited about the 36-year-old moving forward.
Will fight Sijara Eubanks
October 10, 2018
Modafferi will fight Sijara Eubanks at UFC 230 on Nov. 3, reports.
Modafferi will be stepping into the Octagon against Sijara Eubanks, who was originally expected to take on Valentina Shevchenko for the vacant women's flyweight championship at the event. However, that fight was surprisingly scratched, which allows Modafferi to face off against Eubanks instead. Modafferi is coming off a TKO win over Barb Honchak and will head into this fight with a three-inch height advantage and a two-inch reach advantage over Eubanks.
Pounds out Barb Honchak at the TUF 27 Finale
July 6, 2018
Modafferi defeated Barb Honchak via TKO (punches) at 3:32 of Round 2 at the TUF 27 Finale on Friday in Las Vegas.
On the feet, neither fighter was really able to get going. However, on the ground, Modafferi had a big advantage. In both the first and second round, she ended up on top and went to work with her ground and pound. In the second round, Honchak went for a body throw. Modafferi held her balance and ended up on top in the mount. From there, she threw elbows until the referee stopped the fight.
Books first fight since falling short in title shot
May 2, 2018
Modafferi will take on Barb Honchak in a flyweight bout at the TUF: 27 Finale on July 6 in Las Vegas, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Modafferi was a replacement finalist on last season of The Ultimate Fighter, where she came up short against Nicco Montano for the inaugural women's flyweight championship. It was her second opportunity on the show after losing to Raquel Pennington in the Season 18 finale all the way back in November of 2013. The 35-year-old will now get one more shot, facing a 10-3 Honchak with what could be her UFC future on the line. The two did fight once back 2011, when Modafferi was in the midst of a six-fight losing streak. Honchak came up victorious via rear-naked choke, but this should be an entirely different matchup nearly seven years later.
