Gillian Robertson
The Savage

Canada

At her suffocating best in win
FlyweightUFC
October 17, 2020
Robertson defeated Poliana Botelho via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Robertson had a bit of trouble finding her way inside in Round 1, but the pressure got to Botelho in the latter frames, which allowed "The Savage" to take her time and cut through her opponent on the ground, swelling her up with elbows along the way. While she was unable to find the finish here, Robertson has earned every letter of her nickname in her time with the UFC, notching a 6-2 record with five stoppages. We've seen her struggle with bigger fighters and better grapplers, but it's clear that Robertson is a constantly-improving problem for fighters at 125 pounds. She improves to 9-4 in professional MMA overall with the win.

Set for Oct. 17 fight with Botelho
FlyweightUFC
July 29, 2020
Robertson is scheduled to face Poliana Botelho in a flyweight fight in a UFC event set for Oct. 17 at a yet-to-be-determined location, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Robertson is coming off of a submission victory over Cortney Casey in June at UFC on ESPN 11, marking her third victory in her last four bouts. Next up for the Canadian is a fight with Botelho, who is if 3-1-0 since joining the UFC. Robertson surrenders three inches of height and four inches of reach to her opponent, so it seems likely she will spend most of her time looking for take-down opportunities.
Dominant submission victory
FlyweightUFC
June 20, 2020
Robertson defeated Cortney Casey via submission (Rear-naked choke) at 4:32 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This is what happens when an accomplished grappler goes up against an opponent with little experience on the mat. Robertson controlled this entire fight and did so with her wrestling. She rode a single successful takedown in each of the three rounds to a ton of control time. Casey actually did a pretty good job of defending herself on the mat, but Robertson eventually wore her down and scored the submission victory late in Round 3. It was an excellent effort from Robertson on the heels of her knockout loss to top prospect Maycee Barber last October. Robertson turned just 25 years of age last month and should be considered a legitimate long-term threat at 125 pounds.
New fight on books
FlyweightUFC
May 22, 2020
Robertson is now scheduled to square off against Cortney Casey in a flyweight matchup June 20, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Robertson is aiming to bounce back from an October loss to Maycee Barber that didn't make it out of the first round. Due to a significant four-inch disadvantage in the reach department, in addition to two inches of height, look for Robertson to play to her strengths and try to take the fight to the mat. On the flip side, Casey will likely aim to keep Robertson at a distance given her reach advantage and more than double the average striking volume. Despite those advantages, it was Robertson that was listed as the early betting favorite of approximately (-130) shortly after this bout was announced.

Robertson will take on Tailia Santos in a flyweight bout at UFC Saskatoon on June 20, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Robertson will be making her first appearance since a first-round TKO loss to Maycee Barber in October. That previously broke her two-fight winning streak.
Knocked out for first time
FlyweightUFC
October 18, 2019
Robertson lost to Maycee Barber via TKO (punches) at 3:04 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Friday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Robertson's plan to get Barber to the mat and grind her way to victory never materialized. She failed on her only two takedown attempts and never truly threatened her opponent offensively. Barber hits like a tank and Robertson had never been knocked out prior to Friday, so it appears as if this can simply be chalked up as an off night for the 24-year-old Canadian. Robertson's reliance on her ground game to be successful is concerning, but she's still young and there is plenty of time for her to improve in other areas. This setback snaps a brief two-fight win streak for Robertson.
