Tracking to be Chicago's QB2
Following the selection of No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, Bagent is viewed as the favorite to open the season as the Bears' primary backup quarterback, USA Today's Vincent Parise reports.
ANALYSIS
With Justin Fields traded to the Steelers earlier in the offseason, it leaves Bagent and Brett Rypien behind Williams. There's a chance Chicago adds an experienced veteran to what is currently a pretty young quarterback room, but Bagent showed well enough as a rookie last year to enter 2024 with a chance to claim backup duties. Bagent went 2-2 in four games as a starter, completing 65.7 percent of his passes for 859 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions and adding 109 rushing yards and two additional scores on 23 attempts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely headed back to bench
Bagent is expected to move into a bench role Sunday against the Lions with Justin Fields expected to serve as the Bears' starting quarterback, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bagent has started Chicago's last four games while Fields recovered from a thumb injury. The undrafted rookie threw only three touchdowns in those four starts but won two games, which is as many wins as Fields has in his last 18 starts. Despite the team's lack of success with Fields under center, a healthy Fields will reclaim the starting job over Bagent.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Bagent was an undrafted free agent the Bears acquired after the 2023 draft. Both PJ Walker and Nathan Peterman had unimpressive training camps. As a result, Bagent enters the season as the No. 2 QB behind Just Fields. Bagent is considered a developmental project, so if Fields had to miss time, it's possible the Bears would add a veteran backup. Regardless, Chicago saw enough positives from Bagent that they kept him on the regular season roster.
