2024 Fantasy Outlook
McKenna's 2023 campaign got off to a rotten beginning. In his first start on April 1 versus the Red Sox, he dropped a routine flyball which would've been the final out of the game and then watched the next batter hit a walk-off homer. It would be dramatic to say the 27-year-old's season never got better, but McKenna spent much of the year being shuttled back-and-forth between Triple-A Norfolk and the majors and posted just a .677 OPS with a 28.8 percent strikeout rate during his time with the big club. McKenna's best shot at playing time is in a short-side platoon role, and with a career .221/.288/.333 line versus left-handed pitching, it's difficult to have any confidence he'd be successful with that gig. Goes yard in win
McKenna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Sunday's 11-1 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
McKenna has gotten into the lineup against the last three southpaws the Orioles have faced -- twice in center field and once in left. The outfielder has three hits this season, two of which have left the yard. He's still unlikely to see much more than a short-side platoon role, and McKenna's stay on the major-league roster is likely to end once Austin Hays (calf) is activated from the injured list.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Reserve role likely
McKenna is likely to begin the 2022 season as the Orioles' fourth outfielder, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
McKenna made his major-league debut in 2021 and bounced between Baltimore and Triple-A Norfolk. He didn't fare particularly well across his first 197 plate appearances in the majors, hitting just .183/.292/.558. Even so, Meoli expects McKenna to begin the year as the Orioles' fourth outfielder behind Cedric Mullins, Austin Hays and Anthony Santander. That could change if the team makes moves either via trade or free agency, though that may be unlikely given the status of its ongoing rebuild.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2021
2020
McKenna has at least stuck around as a bench bat for the Orioles the last two years, but there's not much to like from a fantasy angle. He's hit just four home runs and stolen three bases in 195 career games, logging a mere 369 plate appearances. His slash line in that span is .209/.293/.302, and there's little reason to think he'll have a major breakout without claiming more playing time. A natural center fielder, McKenna is blocked at that position by Cedric Mullins, while a mix of Austin Hays, Anthony Santander and Kyle Stowers figure to be the preferred corner outfielders for Baltimore in 2023. McKenna has decent speed, but he's simply not utilized enough to challenge for the 15-20 steals that could make him a specialist in fantasy.
