Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants recently added Erik Kratz and Tom Murphy to their catching depth chart, forcing Garcia to open the season in the minors. The 26-year-old hit .286/.308/.492 with four homers during a September callup in 2018 (19 games), so he figures to get another shot with the big club at some point in 2019.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Things were looking good for Garcia with Low-A Augusta, as he slashed .273/.350/.467 in 83 games before being promoted to High-A San Jose. His play took a turn for the worse with the promotion, as he looked overmatched, albeit in a small sample size, against the increased pitching difficulty at the next level (.227/.310/.280 in 20 games). Even with the late season struggles, Garcia is still considered one of the better hitting catching prospects in baseball. Getting to The Show as a regular will be tough if he stays with this organization, as the Giants have arguably the best catcher in baseball in Buster Posey along with a good young backup in Andrew Susac. If Garcia is able to get his bat back on track in the minors this season, he could be used as a bargaining chip at the trade deadline. If Garcia was moved to an organization in need of a catcher, his value in dynasty leagues would tick up, but he is still too far away to focus heavily on the big league depth chart.
