Edwards popped a blood vessel in his right thumb during Sunday's victory over Butler, Mike DeFabo of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.

The minor issue did not prevent the senior from scoring 20 points on 75 percent shooting, and isn't expected to carry ramifications into Friday's Sweet 16 showdown against Texas Tech. Edwards will tape up the thumb for practice with the expectation that the swelling will subside prior to tipoff. Though it may be worth keeping an eye on, the injury shouldn't change the outlook for Edwards or the Boilermakers, who are minus-1.5 betting favorites for the matchup.

March 18, 2018

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards had 20 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in Purdue's Round of 32 win over Butler.

With Purdue's second-leading scorer Isaac Haas (elbow) out, Edwards led the Boilermakers in scoring while shooting at an extremely efficient 75 percent clip. Although he committed three of the team's 10 turnovers, he was perfect from both the stripe and from behind the arc. He will look to replicate this efficiency when Purdue faces Texas Tech in the Sweet 16 on Friday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards had 15 points (6-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-3 FT). seven rebounds and a block in Friday's Round of 64 win over CS Fullerton.

Edwards had struggled in Purdue's last two outings, posting only four and seven points, on a combined 26.7 percent shooting. He started the NCAA Tournament off strong, however, shooting 50 percent from the field while hitting 2-of-4 three point attempts. Purdue will face the winner of the Butler versus Arkansas game in the Round of 32 on Sunday.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards supplied 26 points (10-14 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in an 82-75 victory over Rutgers on Friday in the Big Ten Tournament.

Corey Sanders and Geo Baker from Rutgers came after the Boilermakers trying to pull the upset, but 26 points from both Vince and Carsen Edwards were enough to advance and pick up their fourth straight victory. The 6-8 senior missed two games with an ankle injury before returning last Sunday in the regular season finale against Minnesota. After a big performance on Friday, Edwards' ankle shouldn't be a concern the rest of the way. Purdue will play Penn State in the semi-finals, a team they defeated two weeks prior, despite being one of two games Edwards missed with an ankle injury.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards (ankle) has been cleared to play Sunday against Minnesota.

Things have been trending in the right direction for Edwards since early Saturday, but now the school has confirmed that he'll be available for the Boilermakers' regular-season finale. Grady Eifert will likely head back to the bench to clear a spot in the starting five for Edwards.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards (ankle) is expected to play Sunday against Minnesota, Nathan Baird of the Journal & Courier reports.

This could be a big development for the Boilermakers, who have been missing Edwards the last two games due to an ankle injury. Purdue won both games, but the victories came in lacklustre fashion by squeaking out a three-point win over Penn State and narrowly escaping Champaign with a win over Illinois. Edwards' return will be a boon to Purdue's frontcourt production both in terms of scoring and in rebounding, provided he ultimately takes the floor against the Gophers.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards (ankle) will not play in Thursday's game against Illinois, Nathan Baird of the Lafayette Journal & Courier reports.

Edwards continues to recover from a sprained left ankle, which will now cost him a second straight matchup. Considering the star forward has yet to retake the court for practice, his absence from Thursday's lineup shouldn't come as a huge shock. The senior has just one game left -- Senior Day on Sunday against Minnesota -- to retake the floor during the regular season before conference tournament play starts. Grady Eifert is considered the favorite to start in his place again and to receive an increased workload.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Edwards (ankle) didn't participate in practice Wednesday and said he remains a game-time decision for Thursday's tilt at Illinois, Nathan Baird of the Lafayette Journal & Courier reports.

Though he's no longer sporting a walking boot on the sprained left ankle, Edwards' failure to return to practice since suffering the injury over the weekend puts him at risk of missing his second straight game. Purdue head coach Matt Painter will presumably wait until closer to the 7:00 p.m. EST tip off Thursday before ruling Edwards in or out, but don't be surprised if the Boilermakers err on the side of caution and hold out the senior. The 13-16 Illini are tied for 11th place in the Big Ten and will remain heavy underdogs even if Edwards is sidelined.
