2019 Tournament PreviewAfter winning 12 in a row to close out the regular season, VCU not only lost in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament, leading scorer Marcus Evans (13.8 ppg, 3.2 apg, 1.9) went down with a left knee injury. His MRI fortunately came back clean, and it sounds like it will be a pain tolerance issue moving forward. Either way, the Rams' defense should still be sound, ranking third in the nation in effective field-goal percentage allowed (42.9), third in 3-point percentage allowed (27.6 percent) and ninth in turnover percentage at 23.4. Grit keeps the Rams in most games despite their inability to score consistently. VCU, which ranks 330th in 3-point percentage (30.7 percent) and 172nd in offensive efficiency, is prone to scoring droughts. The potential of a limited Evans of compounds that considerably, as he was the team's go-to scorer. Perhaps junior guard De'Riante Jenkins (11.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg) can pick up the slack. Defense travels, though, and the Rams will be at worst a tough out.
